Care workers in residential and extra care employed by Sirona across Bath & North East Somerset are taking further action to protect their pay!

Care staff have been told by Sirona management to accept a thirty minute “unpaid break” into most shifts. Most of the workers earn just above the minimum wage and can’t afford to take a further financial hit.

Care workers would then either lose half an hour’s pay per shift, or see these unpaid breaks stack up over time. Workers would have to work shifts for free in effect, in order to “pay back” their breaks.

What happens next?

Following five days of strike action in November we are hopeful that B&NES council will see sense and find the relatively small amount of money to fix this problem.

Further strike action will be announced in due course.

How can you support the strike?

We need all our supporters in B&NES to write to local councillors telling them to fund Sirona properly

Use our template letter to write to your councillor. You can find your councillor at Write To Them

If you don’t live in B&NES, you should adjust our template and write to Tim Warren (leader of the council) and Vic Pritchard (cabinet member for social care).

If you are part of a local group of any kind please consider the following steps:

  • Donate to the strike fund. The staff are losing money every time they strike and the fund helps deal with some hardship.
  • Send a cheque made out to UNISON B&NES c/o UNISON South West, Vintry house, Wine street, Bristol BS1 2BD.
  • Alternatively make a bank transfer with the reference SIRONA HARDSHIP to  Bath & North East Somerset Unison Branch, Account Number: 49025813, Sort Code: 608301
