Job Title: Branch Organiser / Casework
Salary: £32,000 per annum / £25,943 Pro Rata
30 Hours Per Week
Unison’s Bolton Health Branch is currently recruiting a Branch Organiser/ Case Worker to support members in core and outsourced employers across UNISON Bolton Health Branch.
Successful candidates will bring their experience and skills in assisting the Branch to recruit, map membership density, develop new activists and drive forward our campaigning work as well as undertaking individual casework. The successful candidate will be an experienced team player, have good communication and time management skills, including the ability to organise your own workload and effectively manage your priorities.
You will need to undertake a range of development and casework duties to support our members and activists including often working to tight deadlines and being responsible for updating and maintaining accurate and confidential records.

The Branch Organiser/ Case worker post position will either be directly employed basis and set, initially, at a one-year fixed term agreement with a view to extending the agreement longer term. The successful applicant will undergo a 3-months probationary period.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience within UNISON or another equivalent employment relations background, although this is not essential.
Amongst other duties commensurate with the job description, the role will be to primarily to assist the branch with:
Providing quality representation at disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence meetings and other aspects of membership representation as instructed by the Branch.
Building sustainable union organisation, including through the recruitment of members and the recruitment, training and development of stewards. This will include mentoring and shadowing stewards with casework/preparation and organising/campaigning activity.
The strategic development and execution of the branch’s core campaigns in line with the branch’s collective bargaining priorities – Building union capacity, recognition and collective bargaining in employers where UNISON does not currently have established recognition arrangements, including in the private and voluntary sectors.
Supporting branch communications and assisting with General branch administration duties.
The postholder will ultimately be responsible to the UNISON Bolton Health Branch.
Predominantly the postholder will work within normal operating hours Monday to Thursday 7.5 hours , however, flexibility is essential and primarily needs to meet the requirements of the Branch. You will need to be prepared to travel within and across the Bolton Area as well as across the North West region, or other, in order to meet various employers at their Head Offices or other affiliated establishments. It is desirable that the appointed person has their own transport.
To undertake this role you must have good interpersonal and IT skills, excellent administrative and organisational skills and a good understanding and knowledge of the trade union movement.
The successful candidate will bring their experience and skills in one-to-one representation, communications, recruitment, organising and campaigning. To undertake this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate experience and knowledge of the Trade Union and Labour movement.
Previous experience of representation, as a recruiter, organiser and campaigner within a TU branch or within a similar organisation is essential.
The Branch Organiser/Case Worker must have a clear understanding of equalities and how to increase participation in a member-based organisation using different media platforms to raise UNISON’S profile. They will be highly focused on building the organisation and providing member satisfaction with the service provided. They will have enthusiasm and commitment which motivates lay activists, new stewards, members, and potential members.
